Kurdistan Technical Institute Hosts a Scientific Panel on "Preventing Common Medication Administration Errors Among Nurses, Pharmacists, and Specialist Physicians"

As part of its ongoing academic initiatives to promote healthcare awareness and enhance patient safety, the Nursing Department at Kurdistan Technical Institute (KTI) organized a comprehensive scientific panel entitled:

"Preventing Common Medication Administration Errors Among Nurses, Pharmacists, and Specialist Physicians."

The event was attended by the Institute‌s Deanship, healthcare professionals, faculty members, and students.

Objectives & Core Themes:

The panel addressed the critical nature of the medication administration process within hospitals and medical centers. In-depth discussions focused on the essential tri-party collaboration between the physician, pharmacist, and nurse to prevent adverse medication errors that could jeopardize patients\' lives. Key issues examined included prescription interpretation, dosage verification, labeling errors, and drug administration in high-acuity environments such as operating theaters and intensive care units (ICUs).

Distinguished Panelists:

The panel was skillfully moderated by Lecturer Hardi Hassan Rasool, faculty member in the Nursing Department at KTI, and featured three prominent healthcare specialists:

Asst. Lect. Jabar Osman Saeed – Master\'s in Pediatric Nursing (Highlighted the unique sensitivities and nursing considerations in pediatric pharmacology).

Asst. Prof. Dr. Vian Ahmed Wasta Ismail – Clinical Pharmacist (Emphasized the clinical pharmacist\'s role in verifying prescriptions, preventing adverse drug interactions, and guiding medical teams).

Dr. Hez Ehad Mohammed – Specialist General Surgeon (Addressed physician accountability, prescription accuracy, and medication safety protocols during surgical care).

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A discussion with the audience and yielded several key recommendations, including: the critical need for expanding digitized e-prescribing systems, integrating clinical pharmacists directly into hospital rounds, reinforcing rigorous labeling protocols for nursing staff, and conducting regular interprofessional training to ensure the highest standards of patient safety.
