Date : 05 - Sep - 2026

As part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing academic excellence and standardizing assessment practices, the Kurdistan Technical Institute (KTI) organized a specialized workshop titled "Writing Examination Questions Using Bloom\'s Taxonomy," presented by M. Ramyar Mohammed Sleman.

The three-hour workshop (held on Thursday, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM) witnessed the active and mandatory participation of all Heads of Departments (HoDs), relevant directors, academic staff and lecturers (both full-time and part-time), and laboratory assistants. The session was conducted under the direct supervision of the Quality Assurance Directorate (SAQA) and the Media & Communication Directorate.

The primary objective of the workshop was to reinforce the academic staff\'s practical capabilities in utilizing Bloom\'s Taxonomy to ensure a consistent, standardized approach across the institute‌s central Question Bank.

Key topics and learning outcomes addressed during the session included:

Mapping Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs): Aligning learning outcomes with the appropriate cognitive levels of Bloom\'s Taxonomy.

Effective Item Writing: Designing various question formats (MCQ, True/False, Matching, and Essay questions) that genuinely measure the intended cognitive level.

Cognitive Level vs. Difficulty: Distinguishing between cognitive demand and question difficulty, ensuring accurate labeling of each item.

Avoiding Common Flaws: Identifying and eliminating common pitfalls in question design, such as unintended cueing, grammatical mismatches between prompts and options, and weak distractors.

Balanced Exam Design: Building well-structured examination papers with an appropriate distribution of cognitive levels.

The workshop also featured an interactive hands-on segment, during which participants reviewed, critiqued, and restructured previously written exam questions under the guidance of the presenter. The event concluded successfully with productive discussions and valuable feedback from the attendees.
