KTI Researchers Validate Key Biomarker for Monitoring Treatment of Fatal Feline Virus
Researchers from the Kurdistan Technical Institute (KTI) have contributed to a significant veterinary medical study published in the Open Veterinary Journal. Ramyar Ako and Hanar Abdulrahman, from KTI’s Department of Medical Laboratory Technology, co-authored the research which identifies a critical and accessible method for monitoring the recovery of cats suffering from Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP).
The study, titled "Albumin/Globulin ratio as a valuable marker for monitoring remdesivir therapy in feline infectious peritonitis," evaluates the effectiveness of the antiviral drug remdesivir in treating FIP—a viral infection that was previously considered almost invariably fatal in cats
The study was published as a collaboration between Kurdistan Technical Institute and College of Veterinary at the University of Sulaimani.
This publication underscores the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology’s commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and participating in high-impact research. By validating the A/G ratio as a low-cost, effective monitoring tool, Mr. Ako and Ms. Abdulrahman’s work provides veterinarians with a practical method to save animal lives and guide clinical decision-making.
